Senior civil servants demand a minimum wage of N46, 000

The Association of Senior Civil Servants demanded a minimum wage of N46,000 for workers.
The union's Secretary-General, Mr. Bashir Lawal, in Lagos State, on Wednesday, said that the existing N18,000 minimum wage was too little to meet the socio-economic demands of workers.

According to him, they arrived at a minimum wage of N46,000 per month after the union met with the National Public Service Joint Negotiating Council.
He said,
"In the past one year, we presented a proposal for salary review to the Federal Government but the government said that the price of crude had fallen. "We argued that if the price of crude is 30 dollars per barrel and the resources of the country are well managed, money will be enough to pay workers decent salaries.
"From the memo we submitted to the NPSJNC, we computed what it will take for an average worker to survive and we arrive at N66,000. "So, we took 75 per cent of that and we arrived at N46,000 minimum wage.
Lawal said that the new minimum wage demand will not cause crisis in the economic sector, he said:
"If the government believes that the amount will create crisis, we will tell them what to do to ensure that everybody will be carried along."

Real Madrid must defend better - Benitez

The new coach believes he can make the side better defensively than they have been in recent years, but insists he wants them to be dominant in games

Rafael Benitez says he wants Real Madrid to be better defensively than they have been in recent years.

The Spanish coach is looking to bring silverware back to the Santiago Bernabeu this term after they missed out on La Liga, the Champions League and Copa del Rey to Barcelona in 2014-15.

And while Benitez is happy with how proficient Madrid have been over the past few seasons, he feels they need to be stronger defensively.

"I want us to be a team that go out to win every game," he told the club's official website.

"A team that take the initiative, are assertive, that attack as well as in recent years and that defend a little bit better, to achieve that balance that will enable us to win more games and have a greater chance of winning trophies."

Madrid are currently in Australia to continue their pre-season preparations and the former Liverpool boss is looking forward to improving his relationship with his players during their time there.

"We want to get to know the players and for the players to get to know us, and to try to bring Real Madrid an idea of play that's in line with who Real Madrid are.

"This time together really helps in that regard."

Schweinsteiger: I joined Man United to win titles

The 30-year-old insists he has not lost the hunger for silverware despite claiming eight Bundesliga titles, seven DFB Pokals and a Champions League at Bayern Munich

Bastian Schweinsteiger insists he joined Manchester United to win silverware rather than simply reunite with former boss Louis van Gaal.

The Germany international ended his 17-year association with Bayern Munich to move to Old Trafford in a £12 million deal on Monday, arriving at the same time as Southampton star Morgan Schneiderlin.

And having claimed eight Bundesliga titles, seven DFB Pokals and a Champions League crown in Bavaria as well as the 2014 World Cup with Germany, Schweinsteiger insists he has not lost his hunger for trophies.

"I am very happy to be here and to play for Man United," the 30-year-old said at his unveiling during United's pre-season tour of the United States.

"It is a big honour. It's a new step in my life. I want to win titles, it's easy. Manchester United is used to that and I am too, so that's my goal."

Schweinsteiger fielded questions alongside fellow summer signings Schneiderlin and Matteo Darmian, and Van Gaal admits he is very pleased by United's transfer dealings so far.

"I am very happy because they are in my opinion very good players," the Dutchman added. "That is why Manchester United has bought them.

"I am very happy that they are already here before the tour. We can prepare in the tour all the team elements that I have to implement with the new players. Memphis Depay is also here and now we have three new signings so it's much better than last year."

Sad news for Nigerians that want to work in the UK with student visa

Tory led UK government will force foreign students to leave Britain once their courses end... eya!

UK Daily Mail reports
Foreign students are to be banned from working in Britain under a fresh crackdown on immigration ordered by Home Secretary Theresa May.
When courses finish they will have to leave the country before reapplying to return for a job. Ministers say the new rules, which will apply to all those from outside the European Union, will stop colleges being used as a 'back door to a British work visa'.
Official figures show that 121,000 non-EU students entered the UK in the 12 months to June last year, but only 51,000 left - a net influx of 70,000.
The government estimates that the number of foreign students coming to the UK will rise by more than 6 per cent a year up to 2020. Home Secretary Theresa May has taken action against 870 bogus colleges, banning them from taking foreign students.

But the Conservatives have vowed to go further, without the Lib Dems in power to force the rules to be watered down.

They want to stop student visas being used as an easy way to enter the UK before getting a job and claiming benefits.

Under the new rules, non-EU students will be denied the right to work while in the UK and will not be able to apply for a visa extension when their course finishes.
Students will have to leave the country before applying to return under a work visa.
The length of stay is also expected to be cut to two years when the plans are unveiled this week.

Immigration Minister James Brokenshire said it was 'part of our plan to control immigration for the benefit of Britain'.

'Immigration offenders want to sell illegal access to the UK jobs market and there are plenty of people willing to buy.

'Hard-working taxpayers who are helping to pay for publicly funded colleges expect them to be providing topclass education, not a back door to a British work visa.'
Business Secretary Sajid Javid signalled on Friday that the govermment would stop the education system being abused by immigrants.

He said: 'What we need to make sure - and we do have this - is that our immigration system allows those from abroad that want to come to Britain to study in our world-class universities, our fantastic colleges to come here,' he told the Today programme.

'But we've also got to have a system that doesn't allow any abuse when people are using the right to study as a way to achieve settlement in Britain.
'So we've got to break the link and make sure it's focused on people who want to study and then, once they've had their studies and completed that, then they leave.'
But universities have warned that any clampdown could damage the sector and business leaders are also wary of the move, warning it could rob Britain of vital skills.

Seamus Nevin, head of employment and skills at the Institute of Directors, said: 'The Business Secretary's proposals to eject foreign students after graduation are misguided and would damage the British education system, our economy and global influence.

'Britain already makes it difficult and artificially expensive for international students to enter and stay, and now these proposals would eject them ignominiously when their studies are finished.

'Restricting talented workers from staying on in the UK would damage business and lead to a loss of important skills.

'Shutting the door to highly-trained international graduates at a time when our economy needs them most would be hugely damaging for UK businesses.
'In the interests our education sector, our businesses, and our international standing, the Business Secretary should reconsider this proposal.

Serena Beuford, 27, of Boston is in a coma after her butt implants exploded while doing squats for an Instagram Video at Planet Fitness. Doctors say Serena Beuford is in serious condition after her butt implants exploded. Beuford was working out with a friend at Planet Fitness in downtown Boston. I heard a loud popping noise followed by the woman falling to the floor. She was screaming 'my a** is gone!!!' I had no idea what she was talking about until I saw her cushion like butt missing when EMS took her out the gym.

What is your view about the International Conference on Disabilities which you were a participant?

I am happy that people are beginning to be aware that individuals with disabilities have rights. People involved in fields related to disabilities are beginning to see that it is a problem. The problem of persons with disabilities is not only limited to the individuals with disabilities. It is a national problem that should be addressed as such by everybody.

What are the lessons you learnt from the conference?

I think much has been said and talked about. It is important that we focus on the major issues addressed at the conference in order to tackle whatever the challenges are. The challenges confronting people with disabilities differ when one examines the disability of each of them. In Africa, we talk

444 deaths in 39 days

Apart from the documented 444 murdered victims, hundreds of wounded persons and thousands newly displaced, all    from a surprising fresh onslaught by Boko Haram on scores of communities and towns in at least six northern states of Nigeria, the questions on the lips of Nigerians monitoring the carnage would all meet at some point.  Was the inaugural speech of President Muhammadu Buhari on May 29, 2015 in which he promised to stamp out Boko Haram shortly, just a brilliant prose with no work plan for execution?

Was his diatribe on the terrorists and    his    renewed pledge to route the insurgents mere bravado; a  politically-right outing to    woo everyone as the messiah, while knowing deep inside him he had no such capability?
Many of the residents who may have been inspired by the president’s speech to return to the war ravaged  village of the North-East, especially in Borno State, only to narrowly escape renewed violence may be wondering if Buhari spoke in good faith.
But those who still have faith in the president are wont to argue that it is too early to expect the man to wipe out a six-year-old orgy of murder in less than two months. They are likely also going to argue that those in opposition to the ruling APC are using the tragedy for political advantage. Ironically, it was the inability of the last government to cage Boko Haram that helped to swing winning votes in favour of the former, the opposition APC.
Meanwhile, there is no running from the fact that eradicating Boko Haram within the days that Buhari has been in power would be too ambitious a project in scope and content given what the President met on ground.
The most worrying factor, however, is that instead of ebbing, the deaths and destruction    caused by Boko Haram seem to be galloping compared to the pre-May 29 era.
This is despite the moving of the military command to Maiduguri, Borno State capital and epicentre of the violence which has so far claimed estimated 100,000 lives since the move by Boko Haram to declare Nigeria an Islamic Caliphate started in 2009..
But, Boko Haram is not only the group causing blood and tears to flow, even though many thought the situation ought not to get worse, given the hope Buhari inspired in the suffering communities, especially in the Middle Belt, when he came on board.
From Benue to Nasarawa, Plateau and Kaduna, the tales of night marauders stalking sleeping communities and killing defenceless citizens remain a daily occurrence.
Senator Danjuma La’ah, representing Southern Kaduna at the Senate,  penultimate week, addressed a press conference in Kafanchan, 180 km south of Kaduna metropolis, to register his displeasure with the state of security in his zone. La’ah, the only senator on the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from the North-North-West Zone, said: “After several days of silence from the government of Kaduna State over the most recent killings of law abiding natives of   Southern Kaduna, I have decided to make public my resentment over the development.
“On the 5th  June, 2015, Ayagan village in Bajju Chiefdom in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State was invaded by well armed men. Four people were killed and several others injured when the invaders fired into a crowd of mourners, unprovoked.
“Till date, no culprit has been caught, nor has the state government made any announcement in its effort, if any, at apprehending the killers.
“On the 11th  June, 2015, one Tanko Nyam, 45, of   Kyari Daddu village in Jaba, LGA,   was ambushed by yet another set of gunmen and killed leaving behind his wife and five kids.
“Then on the 17th  of June, 2015, gunmen attacked the village of Katsak, Atakad Chiefdom, Kaura LGA, leaving behind nine dead bodies     and 13   persons   critically injured as early as 8am.
“This government was brought to power
